Amazon-owned security camera company, Ring, has announced the release of the Always Home Cam – an indoor camera that flies around the house like a drone. The announcement was made by some of Amazon’s execs as well as Ring’s founder and Chief inventor, Jamie Siminoff. The indoor drone will be sold for $249.99 from 2021.

The Always Home Cam comes with a dock and measures around the size of a 9-inch square pan. According to Ring, the dock charges the camera when it is not in use. The home drone has been programmed to fly around the house. It can be launched from an application on your mobile phone or programmed to automatically fly at the hint of any type of disturbance or noise.

Siminoff said the main function of the flying security camera is to provide different viewpoints of your home without having to install different cameras in each room. The Always Home Cam is programmed to fly around the house, therefore, performing the function of different cameras at once.

Siminoff disclosed that it took the company two years of extreme focus and determination to build the camera. He also said that Ring was finally able to build the indoor drone as a result of advancements in drone technology. He said the camera was “hard to build”.

Ring stated that owners can set a flying path for the drone as soon as they purchase one. The drone is autonomous but owners can map out a flying path in their homes as well as add specific parts of the house to the drone’s flying path. The Always Home Cam can only work when flying as the dock covers the camera. The camera also contains an inbuilt obstacle avoidance system that will save it from colliding with objects and people as it flies around the home.

Ring stated in its announcement that the drone comes with shrouded propellers that will save it from being entangled in furs, curtains, or even someone’s hair. The drone will make an audible noise when flying and recording to avoid any infringement on privacy. The Always Home Cam has been designed to provide security and a view of the home in the absence of the owner. Owners can ask for a view of specific parts of the house that must have been programmed into the drone’s flying path upon purchase.

Ring said that owners can easily check if the stove is off, or if a door had been left unlocked with the Always Home Cam. The camera can also be programmed to check the house at the sign of any disturbance. The security camera will be released for sale next year and with many people already quite interested in examining the functions of the camera, hopefully, it will live up to expectations.
