President Donald Trump made a surprising entrance to the White House Press Briefing Room to talk about the Dow Jones averaging 30,000 for the first time. However, the president left reporters stunned when he quickly left within a minute of stepping in without taking questions from the reporters.
It was an appearance that can be tagged as Trump’s shortest ever. This appearance is also coming on the heels of his recent approval for the General Services Administration to begin steps towards the transition of President-elect Joe Biden. Trump, in a tweet, said he had written a letter to the head of the GSA, Emily Murphy, asking her to make available resources to the Biden’s team to begin a smooth transition.
Trump thanked her for her steadfastness in refusing to bow to pressure amidst threats to her life and that of her family. However, Trump said he had not conceded. He explained that he was only doing what needed to be done.
President Trump did not talk about his ongoing legal challenges against the outcome of the election. Instead, he spoke about how the stock market had witnessed an incredible milestone under his presidency.
The president had said that the stock market could crash if Biden won the election. In contrast, the new record for the Dow came few weeks after Biden had been declared the winner of the election by major news networks.
Vice President Mike Pence had been speaking about news concerning the coronavirus before the president showed up. The President said he wanted to thank everybody that had contributed to the Dow Jones Industrial Average hitting 30,000 for the very first time. He noted that the nation had never recorded such a number. He tagged the number a sacred number and said people had thought it would never happen, at least not in his presidency.
Trump congratulated everybody within his administration that had worked very hard to see to the economic recovery of the nation. He congratulated the American people, acknowledging their perseverance.
After saying his “thank you” to everyone, the president quickly left the briefing room while reporters threw questions at him in quick successions. He did not respond.
Since Election Day, Trump has hardly been seen in public. He has kept an unusually low profile. He has refrained from engaging the press, often resorting to Twitter, his favorite platform, to dish out his thoughts, among other important information. However, the president was scheduled to be at the Rose alongside the first lady Melania Trump for the annual national Thanksgiving turkey, as is the White House’s custom. That afternoon he appeared for the turkey-pardoning ceremony.
The index stayed above 30,000 for the better part of the day and closed at 30,046. This was about a 450-points increase from Monday’s index.
