Colorado Governor Jared Polis and his partner, Marlon Reis, have both tested positive for the coronavirus disease, according to a statement from the governor’s office. The statement also confirmed that both of them were stable and asymptomatic, CNN reports.
The governor said that Marlon was particularly feeling healthy and in a good state of mind. He said nobody was immune to the attack of the virus and urged every Coloradan to adopt the necessary safety precautions, including putting on face masks while in public, limit physical social interactions, social distancing, and washing of the hands at every point in time.
The governor said he would be attended to by health experts while he isolates. He said he would continue to discharge his duties and responsibilities as he works remotely henceforth.
Other US governors to have contracted the coronavirus disease include the governors of Nevada, Virginia, and Missouri. Gov. Steve Sisolak of Nevada came down with the coronavirus disease during the early part of the month. Gov. Ralph Northam of Virginia and his wife contracted the virus in September while Gov. Mike Parson of Missouri, alongside his wife, both tested positive for the virus in September also. All three governors are Democrats, 9News writes.
About two days after Thanksgiving on Thursday, the number of deaths in the United States from the coronavirus reached a staggering 266,000. New infection cases in the country have continued to soar to new levels, as the number of hospitalizations to various health facilities in the country threatens to overwhelm the public health care system. Communities all over the country have initiated new lockdown measures to help curb the spread of the disease.
As cases spread in the state, the Colorado governor had extended the duration of the state’s mask mandate to about a month. When quizzed by the media if he had any other mandates in place to help forestall the spread of infections, the governor said that measures would be considered at the county level. He said the state was expansive, and some areas were having it tougher than some other places. He explained that this made the need for different safety measures for different areas very necessary.
The governor was in a meeting with President-elect Joe Biden and the Governor’s forum to talk about the spread of the disease. After the meeting, Polis said a lot had been discussed that had to be implemented urgently.
